In its surroundings, institutions such as the Liceo Luis Dobles Segrega, founded in 1959 and the Museo de Arte Costarricense, inaugurated in 1978, stand out. The structure of the Museum was designed by the Costa Rican architect José María Barrantes (1890-1966), who merged a Spanish colonial style with a moderate architectural conception of great purity of lines and exquisite artistic taste.
In the Museum the Golden Room stands out, made by the French artist Louis Ferón (1901-1998) which consists of a set of reliefs arranged in a 150 square meter mural that covers the four walls of the enclosure and synthesizes the history of Costa Rich from pre-Columbian times to the 1940s. The arched windows and doors were carved out of wood and reinforced with ironwork with suggestive floral motifs.
La Sabana Metropolitan Park is an important sports, cultural and recreational area of 72 hectares, located in the heart of San José. All this importance in cultural, sports and recreation areas, make it the main park in San José and the country.
La Sabana Metropolitan Park is a key point in the development of San José, since in the periphery offices such as the Comptroller General of the Republic, the National Football Federation and the Costa Rican Electricity Institute, among others, have been built.
The architectural planning for this area is intended that within a few years La Sabana will be surrounded by buildings of great magnitude, in order to turn it into something similar to Central Park in New York.
