Located 18 km from Maceió, on the North coast, Ipioca beach is characterized by its clear sands, warm waters and a large concentration of coconut trees, ideal for relaxing bathing, hiking, fishing for crabs, lobsters or fish. Enjoyed by lovers of wild camping.
It is where Floriano Peixoto, second President of the Republic, was born.
Mid 18th century, during the Dutch Invasion, Ipioca became an observation center, as it is located in a strategic point, with a panoramic view of the sea. The Church of Nossa Senhora do Ó originated from a fort, built by the Portuguese.
Today Ipioca resembles a small rural town apart from Maceió, the neighborhood has grown and is supported by all kinds of commerce, in addition to public schools and a health post.
The feast of the patron saint makes everyone go out in procession, make the party in the square, with an amusement park, pray the novena at the church and pay their promises to Nossa Senhora do Ó. This achievement has lasted for more than a century, and always with the same devotion.
