The attraction of this place consists of knowing a green lagoon located in the crater. Many of the visitors bathe in it. The inhabitants of the villages that are on the slopes of the volcano use the water for domestic purposes.



In the southern part of this volcano there is a small eruptive focus known as Cerro Monterrico and has a height of 1,285 meters, which can be easily climbed.









In the crater there is a lagoon that is known by the same name and has a height of 1,493 meters.

A natural source that is recharged with water with the contribution of rain and the small tributaries of its basin, like the crater of a volcano.



The Ipala volcano, popularly called the Agua volcano, because of the lagoon in its crater, is one of the places whose natural beauty attracts tourists and specialists who want to observe the flora, fauna and landscape that characterize this region of eastern Guatemala. .



Ipala is a word that evolved from Ipal-já which means: "Seat of kings" in the Chortí language. It is located in the crater of the volcano at 1,650 meters above sea level, it is 600 meters in diameter and 15 meters deep.



Visitors begin their adventure as soon as they leave the vehicle in the village called Chagüitón. From that point, they can walk or rent a beast to take them to the volcano













This volcano belongs to the municipality of Ipala, department of Chiquimula and has a height of 1,650 meters.



You can camp around the lagoon using tents, to keep the moon and stars for company. Those who prefer it can choose the bungalow type accommodation that has four beds. According to Insivumeh, the lagoon is recharged with water with the contribution of rain and the small tributaries of its natural basin like the crater of a volcano. Its level has been reduced in recent years due to climatic variation.
