Pululahua Geobotany Reserve is located near the city center, 17 km north of Quito. The reserve is located within and on the slopes of the volcano of the same name. It reaches an area of 3383,2 hectares. Inside, it houses approximately 1200 species of plants and diversity of birds, mammals and insects of multiple and exotic appearance, in this reserve and area of influence inhabit species such as: Aguilas, apangoras, squirrels, armadillos, boa, owls, woodpeckers, condors, conjos, spits, carros, owls, among others.
The Pululahua forms several hills within the crater, most relevant for their altitude and the influx of ascensionists: El Placer hill (3,084 meters), Maucaquito (3,260 meters), Sincholagua (3,358 m), La Marca (3,083 m), Loma Mirador (3,259 m) and the El Chivo caldera hill. In this beautiful area there are walks on ecological paths where nature lovers can enjoy the local fauna and flora with their unique endemic species.

This area has an ancient importance, since from the Catequillá hill several Pululahua mountains line up according to the sun's position on the equinoxes and solstices.
Pululahua Farm: It is a typical farm of the subtropical zone, was administered by the Dominican Fathers in 1925, in charge of the operation of the boilers until 1905. Due to its geographical position, the mild climate, the beauty of its landscapes and its great biodiversity, the sector attracts scientists, naturalists and tourists.
El Pondoña: Presents the remains of a crater, formed in an eruption 500 years after the collapse of the volcano. The path is covered Epidendrum quitensium, from above you can have a spectacular view of the Pululahua area.
Cerro el Chivo: Located in the southern area of the crater, it has a natural viewpoint that allows you to observe along the way the dense vegetation on which orchids, bromeliads, mosses and ferns grow. You can also have a great view of the front of the boiler and access the Reserve by a 1.4 kilometer path, which descends 300 meters to the bottom of the boiler.
Moraspungo Zone: In the reserve there is a self-guided trail, the tour lasts about an hour and allows you to enjoy the landscape and flora of the humid mountain forest; Here you can see a variety of very impressive butterflies.
Los Hornos de Cal: It was the main economic activity of the former inhabitants of the Pululahua area. How much history the villagers removed from the limestone walls and then transported it to the kilns, which were loaded on several layers of wood and stone and then started the fire from the bottom. Fire helped consume inorganic materials and purify calcium carbonate.
Thermal Mineral Waters: This area is characterized by its cloudy forest and rich vegetation, as the mineral waters that emerge from the western part of Pondoña, where the White River is born. Very close to mineral sources, you can find a red mud that is very good for the skin, and it is believed to have rejuvenating powers.
