The Water Mill, in São Jorge, is the last water mill still in operation in Madeira. Here we can see how the population used the driving force of water for their subsistence. This mill is located on the site of Achadinha, in São Jorge, and still works today. With an age of over 300 years, the mill has been recently restored and is fed by the waters of Levada do Reis.
It is the last water mill in Madeira and is maintained by the miller Lino Albino Mendonça and his wife, the miller Ana Rosa.
Even today, the population uses the water mill to grind wheat, corn, barley and rye, just as it used to be.
